About Us

Leeds University Union Music Society, is one of the biggest music and performance societies within LUU, with almost 300 members from all universities in Leeds!
With 11 different ensembles under our wing, LUUMS provides opportunities for musicians across all skill levels through 7 non-auditioned and 4 auditioned ensembles. Each ensemble presents three concerts across the year, giving our musicians numerous opportunities to perform publicly. In addition to these concerts, our ensembles are involved in extended opportunities such as UniBrass and the LUUMS Concerto Competition.
Our ensembles showcase a diverse selection of music, including orchestral works, film scores, jazz, experimental and popular music. We have 3 choirs, 2 orchestras, 2 wind bands, a string orchestra, a brass band, a composer’s collective and a percussion ensemble.
It’s not all work though! Our ensembles typically wind-down weekly rehearsals at Old Bar in the Union and organise their own social events for members. Best of all, we host society-wide events across the year, starting with the Intro Party to kick off the year, and a post-exam Week of Fun in the summer! The social highlight of the year however is our annual LUUMS Ball, a formal dinner with live music and our annual awards which is not to be missed!
