About Composer’s Collective
Composers collective is a non auditioned ensemble focused on supporting young composers and providing a platform to have their work performed.
Open to many genres, composers concerts often display a variety of different approaches to music in one event. From classical solo pieces, to guided improvisation based contemporary work, to electronic music, Composers Collective is always an eclectic group with a place for all kinds of composers. Three concerts a year are performed with LUUMS, but external gigs are also offered at venues such as Wharf Chambers.
Meet the Composer’s Collective team
Managers
Samuel Paternoster
Sam is a second year BA English and Music student from Essex. He has played the piano for many years, but is looking to expand this to a wider variety of instruments alongside composers.
Sam has generally composed with expressionism in mind, though this year he will be trying some more experimental work. He has appreciated Composers Collective as a place to both expand his own composition practice and engage with unfamiliar genres. He aims to continue this into his second year in Composers Collective, now as a co-manager.
Charlie Florian Foster
Charlie Florian Foster is a second-year Music and Music Technology student. They began playing music at the age of 10, later becoming a lead alto saxophone player in the Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra. They were gifted Logic Pro at 12 and began whirring away on various electronics blips and boops, releasing an EP of IDM and glitch after they turned 17. Since joining LUUMS, Composer’s Collective has helped Charlie get their musical work onto the stage, and they want to help others to do the same this year.
Born to parents from rural Yorkshire and Berlin, Charlie’s musical leanings are similarly split: airy, pensive chamber music and frenzied glitch and techno beats. They’re unsure which side will win. In their free time, Charlie enjoys writing, going to the cinema or park, studying languages, and sleeping.
