About Composer’s Collective

Composers Collective is a unique ensemble in LUUMS dedicated to encouraging young composers to develop their passion and skills for writing music.

A social group, Composers Collective puts on 3 concerts/open mics a year with LUUMS, as well as offering external gigs at venues such as Wharf Chambers, to display the talent of our members and giving them the opportunity to have their works performed live!

Managers

Martha Thompson

Martha is a fourth-year Music Psychology Student from Nottinghamshire. Coming from a musical family, Martha has been attending concerts since she was 3 years old and playing the piano since the ago of 10, later taking on the trumpet. She took up composing when she was 14, firstly writing songs but then moving to more orchestral pieces of work.

She has enjoyed the flexibility that Composers Collective has offered, and looks forward to co-managing Composers Collective this year with Tommy Dean, offering fellow musicians the space to explore their compositional abilities and hear their works being performed live.

Tommy Dean

Tommy is a third-year BA Music student and composer originally from London. His primary instrument is processed guitar, though he plays piano and gayageum.

Inspired by natural environments, visual art, and literature, Tommy often composes music with the intent of inducing a state of relaxation in the listener. This year, as co-manager, his aim is to bring people from all year groups and subjects together to compose, as well as increase collaboration between ensembles
