About Chorus

Hi, we’re LUUMS Chorus, the non-auditioned pop choir in LUUMS. Our choir is open to anyone, no matter whether you have previous musical experience or not. We rehearse from 5-7pm on Mondays in the Clothworker’s Centenary Concert Hall, and we sing a range of contemporary music, from pop bangers to musical theatre classics!

We are a fun-loving choir and positive, welcoming community to anyone of any walk of life. In the choir we’re all just singers looking to have a great time and make new friends. So come along, try it out, we can’t wait to meet you!

Meet the Chorus team

Conductor

Liam Yong

Born and raised in Malaysia, Liam began his musical journey as a clarinettist in his high school marching band, where he discovered a deep passion for conducting. As drum major and conductor, he led his school orchestra to a Gold Award at the He Yue International Arts Festival 2023. His experience includes performing with the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) Outreach Collaborative Programme, and Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Orchestra and Choir (SKOC).

He is also one of the founding members of the Saxophone and Clarinet Quartets of SKOC, and has since been committed to educating young players by sharing his musical knowledge and experience. In May 2025, Liam was invited to perform at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Japanese band AKB48 alongside professional musicians from Taiwan and Hong Kong.

He has worked under distinguished conductors from Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Thailand, and participated in masterclasses with acclaimed composers such as Daisuke Shimizu from Japan. Looking ahead, Liam is excited to conduct the Chorus, where he hopes to foster musical growth and spread positivity through shared performance.

Managers

Ellie Clark

Ellie is a second year Graphic and Communication Design student from Buckinghamshire. Her love for singing began when she joined an amateur theatre school at the age of 7. Following this she began to learn guitar but soon realised that singing was more her style!

Before studying at Leeds, Ellie was involved in a range of ensembles from Chapel and Gospel choirs to Musical Theatre shows. In 2023, she was lucky enough to travel to Italy with her choir to perform in churches all through the region of Tuscany. Joining Chorus was one of the highlights of Ellie’s first year at the University of Leeds and she looks forward to seeing what she can bring to the choir this year!

Isabelle Caley

Isabelle Caley is a second-year student pursuing a degree in Music and Music Psychology. Her love for music began at the age of six, when she started violin lessons and became an active member of her town’s orchestra. Alongside her instrumental studies, Isabelle began vocal training at age seven. She quickly developed a strong affinity for musical theatre, earning distinctions up to Grade 7 in vocal performance.

Her singing reflects both technical precision and emotional depth, with a particular love for musical theatre classics. In her free time, Isabelle immerses herself in a wide variety of musical theatre pieces, showcasing her dedication and enthusiasm beyond formal study. Following university, she aspires to pursue a career in music therapy. This year Isabelle is excited to be a manager of chorus for LUUMS, and she is looking forward to making it a happy environment for everyone in a close-knit group.
